Landstar Celebrates Its Network with Annual Safety Awards

James Carithers was named Landstar’s 2023 Safety Officer of the Year at the company’s annual event for independent Landstar agents. Landstar requires each of the nearly 1,100 freight agencies to name an individual responsible for upholding Landstar’s safety-first culture at the agency. Each month, Landstar names one Landstar Safety Officer of the Month, from which the Landstar Safety Officer of the Year is selected.

“As the designated LSO, James has led the Momentum Transportation agency in promoting safe, secure and compliant driving, and supporting customer safety initiatives at the agency level,” said Matt Miller, Landstar Transportation Logistics executive vice president of safety, compliance, trailer management and insurance administration, during the April 5 ceremony. “James demonstrates the role of effective communication in fostering a culture of safety.”

Carithers works for independent Landstar agency Momentum Transportation in Jacksonville, Florida. Carithers earned the award for consistently utilizing Landstar initiatives such as the Complete and Accurate Dispatch program, and actively participating in Landstar’s monthly Safety Thursday Conference Calls when independent agents, owner-operators, customers, employees and representatives from state and federal regulatory agencies discuss safety topics.
