May 16, 2000 Jacksonville, FL - Landstar System, Inc., a safety-first transportation and information services company, announced today Landstar Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Henry H. Gerkens has been elected to the company's Board of Directors. Election results were announced at the company's 2000 Annual Meeting of Shareholders.
Gerkens joined Landstar in 1988 as Vice President and CFO of Landstar System Holdings. In 1994, he was named Landstar Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.
"Henry's vision for this company and his proven ability to keep up with the rapid pace of the global financial markets will serve us well," said Landstar Chairman, President and CEO Jeff Crowe. "He is a welcome enhancement to the board."
Gerkens replaces John B. Bowron, who is stepping down to retire. Bowron was elected to the Board of Directors in 1991. Upon retirement, he was presented with a Resolution of Appreciation, in honor of his services. "John brought significant business insight to the table," said Crowe. "He served this board faithfully. We wish him well."
Gerkens holds a Bachelors degree in Business Administration from Adelphi University, Garden City, New York and is a certified public accountant. He lives in Ponte Vedra Beach with his wife Marcia. He has four grown children, two young children who live at home and one on the way.
